Designer notes DoggySnooze 2.0
Early June 2010 I discussed with our engineer the goals for a redesign of our DoggySnooze dog bed line. These goals were: easy assembly especially of the bed layer (for easy replacement for machine washing), ability to add more functions to the bed itself, (anything for orthopedic, outdoors, continence), design more pet furniture items out of the same style and lastly to keep the well-liked stylish contemporary design in tact. I believe we met these goals. Today, June 16 2011 we are doing our first shipment to the Potpourri Group for the In company of dogs catalog (a loyal customer and early adopter).
Why did it take us over a year to get this all done? Needless to say is that we wanted and expected to have it done much faster. But we did not only redesign, we also retooled and re-sourced. A secondary goal was to have this product line made in the United States, so the re-sourcing process took a long time to find new suppliers, make new tooling, and test quality of material and components. Thanks to all of our resellers, consumers, suppliers and partners who supported us during this process.
What has exactly changed? The design itself changed only subtle, but the frame construction and the inside changed drastically. A brief overview of the changes:
- Frame tubes consist now of two sections, the upper and lower section in which between the fabric layer is connected.
- The space between the bed layer and straps can be used for a comfort foam layer
- The method that joins the upper and lower section of the frame tubes allows the use of any thickness and type of fabric for indoor or outdoors use.
- The leg bottoms are now using a rubber type material which avoids slipping on hard wood or tile floors.
- We introduce 4 versions of the same bed with a different upper structure set and an elevated feeder.
- We are now offering the bed frame in silver and black, 3 elevation styles (short legs, long legs, wheels), 5 bed layer colors and 5 bolster colors. New fabric options coming soon.
Also we introduce a ‘build your own dog bed’ option where a consumer can design their own bed by choosing the bed layer color, frame color, back and side bolster colors and elevation type.
